Creative Photoshoot Ideas

1. Finding flowers is the first step

To get your creative inspiration going, let’s begin with discussing flowers! With spring on the horizon, most of us are eager to bid farewell to our heavy winter coats and embrace the revitalizing spring breeze (although we may have to overlook the onset of allergy season). For a scenic background, why not consider places abundant in flowers? Perhaps a visit to a Botanical Garden or tulip fields would spark some ideas. Or how about snapping a photo outside a nearby flower shop, greenhouse, or community garden? Let nature’s flourishing greenery and blossoms serve as your muse.

It’s a wonderful time for unique photos, whether you’re a beginner looking for some floral self-portraits or a pro posing for a photographer. Find flowers and let them grow your imagination. 🌷

2. Bring flowers as a gift

It’s okay to bring some flowers to-go if you can’t find any flowers! Use blooms in season, greenery that stands out, or an overall vibe that lets you be playful with flowers to-go! It can be a lot of fun to do something different with your hands and experiment with the use of flowers or other greenery for a whimsical feel, no matter what season it is! 💁‍♀️

You can also bring flowers for indoor shoots. If you are a fan of still-life photos, bringing flowers for creative portraits is a great idea. 💡

3. Wear flowers as a decoration

Last but not least: if you don’t have flowers or can’t bring them, why not wear them? You can go for subtle florals or go full-throttle with florals that pop! Whether it’s a dress, sweater, or accessory, flowers can help you stand out from the crowd at your next photoshoot and is one of our favorite creative photoshoot ideas! 👗

4. Accessorize with colourful items

If flowers aren’t your thing, but you like the idea of more colour, how about diving into colorful accessories? Imagine a beautiful garden — what does it look like? Whether it’s a variety of shades, a background of green, or glowing light – how can that translate into your vision? Make use of smaller pops of colour and creative accessories such as hats, scarves, bags, retro glasses, headbands…you name it!

5. Colors that complement each other

Greetings, fashionable individuals! Are you in search of a unique method to incorporate vibrant hues into your upcoming photoshoot? Look no further than complementary colors! 🎨 Begin by selecting a preferred color or garment and construct your ensemble using complementary shades. Not only will this add vibrancy to a dreary day ☔️, but it will also enhance the visual appeal of your photos, particularly if you’re capturing scenes in a lush green setting where reds and purples complement the environment flawlessly! 6. Coordinate outfits with props

Taking outfit photos is stressful, but why not coordinate props instead? Props make for sassy shots that really stand out. Whether you use something you already own or make your own, props are a lot of fun. 🪧

7. Find a wall that is colourful

Are there feature walls at your photo destination? 🟨 Use them as a colourful backdrop to jazz up a simple photo shoot. Often, these walls don’t have to be intentional — whether they’re popular on social media or a spot you discover haphazardly, look around with a fresh set of creative eyes for inspiration. Use the wall to draw a flat lay vertically!

Apart from selfies, creating a bit of distance between your body and the wall (allowing for a shallow depth of field) creates that great portrait photography bokeh that makes you pop!️

Colourful walls make for great photoshoot backdrops, whether you’re taking close-ups or ones from a distance. 🙌🏻

You should keep timing in mind when taking photos in front of a wall since the light source will vary depending on the time of day. If the wall faces a different direction, golden hour or direct natural light may not be the best option.

8. Keep an eye out for shadows

Many photographers prefer not to use their cameras at midday because of the hard light. This is the time when you should look for shadows.

Don’t be afraid to take pictures in sunny, bright conditions when you wouldn’t normally.

Make the shadow the main focus of your composition by paying attention to the contrast between light and shadow.

9. Take a look at colourful architecture

Take some time to think about architectural gems that you can incorporate into your next photoshoot, such as: doors, windows, building tiles, staircases, and more. These details can be dynamic, unique, and aesthetically pleasing. When it comes to colorful architecture or special angles, it can be very fun to play with them.

It doesn’t matter what your photography skills are, finding colourful architecture is a creative grand-slam for everyone.

10. Be on the lookout for reflections

Photographers often fail to notice reflections or intentionally include them in their pictures.

You can include little or no context for some reflections in your photographs if you find reflections and compose your photographs so they stand out.

Observe what happens as you move around. Your position in relation to what is being reflected will change dramatically.

Taking lots of pictures from different angles will help you find the best angle to take your photos from.

Reflections can be found in:

Ponds and puddles;

Paint or car windows that have been polished;

Buildings with skyscrapers;

Spectacles.

Take note of how color influences your photos when you are photographing reflections on colored surfaces.

At dusk or at night, you might want to take some reflection photos.

11. Cultures with vibrant colors

Elevating your photos by incorporating colours and styles from the local culture is a great way to take them to the next level.

It is hard to miss Tokyo as an example of using local culture as colourful inspiration! The city vibes, dynamic colours, rich history, and tangible energy make bringing photos to life that much more fun.

12. Discover colourful murals and street art

You can use social media to find artsy areas in towns you’re unfamiliar with—use location tags and scroll around to find ideas from others! Use murals and street art to your creative advantage! Using murals and street art to your creative advantage is a great way to showcase your creativity!

A professional photographer (like one of our fabulous Flytographers!) who has a great eye (and a wide-angle lens!) will help bring your creative photoshoot ideas to life. You don’t need to be an influencer or professional blogger to feel confident posing in front of colourful murals.

13. The same prop should be used over and over again

Throughout one month, carry a prop you can use in every photo you take. Don’t make your prop the main subject of any of your shots.

Unlike #4, this idea has interaction, so you will need to carefully consider how your prop supports your main subject.

The following could be used:

Mobile phone;

Clothing, a scarf, or a hat;

Spectacles

It should fit into your camera bag, so you won’t forget it. No matter what you choose, make sure it’s easy to carry.

Try some close-up shots for your photography business. They could be perfect for fashion photoshoots.

14. Sunset Silhouettes on the Beach

Utilize the breathtaking hues of a sunset at the beach to create captivating silhouettes. Experiment with poses against the changing sky to capture the magic of twilight.

15. Vintage Travel Diaries

Recreate the nostalgia of bygone eras by dressing subjects in vintage clothing against the backdrop of classic modes of transportation like old cars, trains, or bicycles.
