- Elephant Falls
Elephant Falls is one of the popular springs of Meghalaya, which is a beautiful three-phase cascade. It is located close to Shillong Peak and is also known as ‘Ka Casaid Lai Tege Khohsue’, or ‘Three Step Waterfalls’. Shillong waterfall is found in thick forests and is picturesque to see after rain rain, especially from October to December.

It is named by the Britishers for a gigantic rock that looks like an elephant at its foundation. Unfortunately, the rock has been destroyed by an earthquake and no longer exists. Only 12 kms from Shillong city, it is a favorite haunt of tourists and locals alike, especially during weekends.
A three-tiered cascade, Bishop falls cascade down the East Khasi Hills from a height of approximately 443 feet, and it is among the most scenic twin falls of Meghalaya. With its thick forests surrounding it, Beadon falls offers a spectacular view of the surrounding area. Both Bishop and Beadon falls cascade through rocks while the foamy water of Bishop Falls gushes down to form a deep plunge into the Umiam River. Both falls fall down to a deep gorge and flow through the picturesque Suna Valley.

3. Seven Sisters Falls
A seven-step cascade, also referred to as Nohsngithiang Falls or Mawsmai Falls, it is the prettiest waterfall in Meghalaya. Seven Sisters Falls fall from a height of 1033 feet down the limestone cliffs of Khasi Hills, and thus it is among the tallest waterfalls in India. Come and visit this waterfall during July and September to experience the complete voluminous flow of the brooks. The waterfall, which cascades in seven streams, falls amidst lush green forests and is a treat to the eyes!

4. Kynrem Falls
The Kinrem Falls located in Thangkarang Park near Cherpunji is one of the highest waterfalls in Meghalaya. It is a three-level waterfall that is about 1003 feet high, which makes it the 7th highest waterfall in India. Located in the forests of the dense Khasi hills, this powerful waterfall displays its thrilling beauty during the monsoon and winter season. One of the most interesting features of this website is Pillar Rock, or Shiva Rock, locally known as Khoh Ram or Mothorp. The huge rock is adjacent to the falls and provides excellent view of the Meghalaya ground.

5. Nohkalikai Falls
At Meghalaya too, Nohkalikai Falls is also a beautiful cascade, located 7 km away from Cherrapunji and is the country’s tallest plunge waterfall. This falls plummets a huge distance and falls heavily with much force into a deep plunge pool where its water is green during summer months and blue for winter months. A vantage gallery from which you could view the plunge pool and the waterfall from overhead is situated on top.

6. Sweet Falls
Although unpopular compared to the rest, Sweet Falls is a stunning view located in close vicinity to Happy Valley. This haven lies within the beautiful Khasi Hills and dense pine groves, giving it a peaceful atmosphere for relaxation and tranquility. It has, however, earned the nickname of being one of the most dangerous waterfalls in Meghalaya because of its slippery rocks, which have caused many accidents. As a safety precaution, the local tourism board has closed off access to the falls, but one can still appreciate its beauty from Happy Valley. Sadly, trekking down to the waterfall is no longer allowed.

7. Dainthlen Falls
Danthlane Falls located in Sohra, close to Charpunji, is a beautiful waterfall, known for its attractive scenes and enchanting beauty. The waterfall is named after a huge snake which was located in a cave next to it, as is the local tradition. People sleep a huge snake due to its harmful behavior. From observation deck, water can be seen falling down in all its anger, which is one of the most beautiful sites.

8. Bophill Falls
A bubbling stream along Dwaki on the Indo-Bangladessian border, Bophill Falls is a lesser-known but very scenic waterfall in Meghalaya. During rainy and post-monsoon seasons, this waterfall showcases its elegance and grandeur. The Bophill Falls provides a breathtaking view of Khasi hills on one end and Bangladesh plains on the other and thus serves as a hotspot for nature enthusiasts and shutterbugs alike.

9. Langshiang Falls
This water fall is situated amidst dense green forests of Sangriang, close to Nongstoin, where River Kynshi flows down to create Langshiang Falls. Though Langshiang Falls are not popular at all, they are among the largest cascades in Meghalaya. This water fall is locally known as ‘kshaid Ur-Nar’ and provides a stunning view of the green hills and nearby hamlets. It is also seen from Mawpon village.

10. Mawphlang Falls
This is a waterfall that is found within Mawhplang Sacred Forests and it is a peaceful and serene fall that flows down from a very high level. It is among the most spectacular falls in the state. The road is lined with forests and a trek has to be made from the road’s terminus. A lot of activities are available at Mawphlang Falls such as swimming and diving in the plunge pool. The people in the area revere trees at Mawhplang Sacred Forest. Trekking in the forest and experiencing this reverence is also very fondly remembered.

11. Imil-Chang-Dare Falls
Imil-Chang-Dare, one of the beautiful waterfalls of Meghalaya, lies close to the Tura-Chokpot Road in the West Garo Hills district. Its picturesque waters cascade through a deep and narrow winding bed of rocky outcrops before spreading into a broad, scenic cascade.
